Jan. 01, 1974 - South African Leo David Lloyd was arrested in Nicosia by the Cypriot police shortly before boarding a plane for Cairo, accused of smuggling ancient Cypriot and Greek pottery? which he claimed he had bought in the Turkish section of Nicosia. Some of the pottery is described by Archaeological authorities as very rare and precious. Lloyd is to be tried in Nicosia
