Jun. 29, 1978 - Army take over in Ethiopia: Ethiopian armed forces today seized control of the country and began a wave of mass arrests of Cabinet Ministers and other officials. One of those arrested was the Prime Minister Endalkatchew Makonnen, 46, appointed only last March by Emperor Hails Selassie during an earlier out break of Military unrest. About 20 armed soldiers under the command of a Captain took over the Lutheran Radio Voice of the Gospel. The stated that they would take over the hole country within a matter of hours. The also stressed their loyalty to Emperor Haile Selassie. Photo Shows Prime Minister Endalkatchew Makonnen who was arrested during the army take over
