Jun. 06, 1979 - Ceremonial opening of the First Parliament of Zimbabwe-Rhodesia The ceremonial opening of Parliament in Salisbury of the first Black Parliament of the country of Zimbabwe-Rhodesia, took place on Wednesday the 26th of June. Photo Shows: President Gumede, the first President of Zimbabwe, seen inspecting a guard of honour during the opening of Parliament. The topper he was wearing had to be borrowed from a local magician as there wasn't a size 7½ to be found for Gumede anywhere in Salibury
