Jun. 06, 1977 - President of Seychelles Deposed Mr. James Mancham, the 37 year old President of the Indian Ocean Seychelles, who is in London to attend the Commonwealth Conference has been overthrown. Taking power is the former Prime Minister Mr. Albert Rene, who is 41. He announced that he will head the new government from his People's United party. Mr. James Mancham, who was the chief minister under the former British rule, had become known as the Playboy President, after becoming the island's first president less than a year ago. At a press conference in London over the weekend he said that the coup was carried out by self admitted Marxists'. in alliance with the Soviet government, and that he would still attend the Commonwealth Conference at the President of the Seychelles, which starts in London tomorrow..
