Dec. 12, 1976 - Garfield Todd Launches Amnesty International's Petition for Prisoners of Conscience Year. Former Prime Minister of Rhodesia, Garfield Todd, today launched Amnesty International's Prisoners of Conscience Year by signing the worldwide petition for the release of all prisoners of conscience at a news conference in London. The petition was also signed at the conference by British peer, Lord Avebury and by four ex-political prisoners adopted by Amnesty International - Martin Sostre (USA); Vadim Delauny (Soviet Union); Angela Seixas (Brazil) and Didymus Mutasa (Rhodesia). Prisoners of Conscience Year begins on December 10th - Human Rights Day. Photo Shows: Garfield Todd addressing the conference today.
