Aug. 08, 1954 - Something New in Potato Harvesters. A newtype of potato harvester which has taken 14 years to develop is to be mass produced in Britain. Invented by Mr. P.J. Packman, the harvester works on a completely new principle of soil separation and potato collection, sntirely avoiding the use of chain belt and sprockets. Handling of the crop is gentle emloying rubber fingers, and the machine has a rubber separation carpet. Five tons of soil are handled every minute. The harvester would allow a farmer to lift his crop with his own permanent staff instead of hiring extra pickers. OPS: Top: The harvester at work.
