Agriculture - Barns - Farming - Livestock
Mar. 31 Moo: Look who's in our beds, Chaps; Even the stable hands at Major Anthony Bramley's farm near Kidlington, Oxford, can't deny it: there's no place like foam since the cows and calves were given Foam Rubber mattresses to sleep on instead of straw. This is no be kind to our dumb friends week either; the idea is both a money and labour saver, which is just why these chaps have time to doze off now and then. The mattresses are covered in a washable hard wearing plastic, and are cheaper than continual fresh straw which is in short supply, anyway. Mucking out the cow shed can be done by one man and a hose pipe. The mattresses are light, flexible and comfortable, which is what the cows (and these guys) are most interested in anyway
