Agriculture - Barns - Farming - Livestock

Mar. 22, 1965 - Farmer says he cannot afford to keep his chickens so he gives 2, 000 of them away: Farmer 52 year old Mr. John Harvey - Keymer continued his programme to irritate the Government yesterday by giving away nearly 2, 000 live chickens. He claims that he cannot afford to keep the chickens. With his protest the farmer hopes to get the Government to reconsider their review of guaranteed prices to farmers. The farmers claim that the review gives poultry and dairymen an appallingly raw deal'. He has threatened to hand over live chickens to Prime Minister Harold Wilson and to many other prominent Labor M.P's but declined to say where or when, but one can be assured it will be in some way to embarrass the Government. Photo shows Farmer Harvey Keymer hands out the live chickens at his farm near May field, Essex yesterday
