Agriculture - Barns - Farming - Livestock

Aug. 08, 1966 - The Office Greenhouse': Ministry of Agriculture clerks have turned their office into a greenhouse - and are producing a fine crop of tomatoes. As sunlight stress through the tell plate glass windows in the Ministry's Subsidies Department at Eden Bridge House, Carlisle, the clerks tend the five tomato plants. They hope to gather at least two pounds of tomatoes from each plant. It all started in fun, said one the clerks, a keen gardener. New the office plants are coming on better than the plants in my own greenhouse. They get plenty of sunlight, and enough warmth from the central heating system in the building, he said. When the tomatoes ripen in about a fortnight, they will be shared round the office staff
