US Air Force TLM-18 missile tracking antenna

1972 - The US Air Force TLM-18 Automatic Tracking Telemetry Antenna, believed to be the largest of its type in existence, follows the paths of American missiles as they streak down the 5000 miles test range which has its beginning at Cape Canaveral, Florida. The TLM-18 is a sixty foot wide antenna mounted on a 38 foot steel tower. It rotates to track the ballistic course of the missile. In all, four of the giant electronic eyes, built by Radiation Inc of Melbourne, Florida, will ultimately oversee the entire missile range. Antenna installations will be at Cape Canaveral, Antigua in the British West Indies, Fernando de Noronha off the coast of Brazil, and Ascension Island in the South Atlantic.
