Dec. 12, 1953 - Britain's Biggest Flattop Experiments With Kingsize Helicopter: A large twin-engined, twin-rotor helicopter, the prototype of the British Bristol Type 173 Mark I, recently carried out successful trials at sea aboard the Royal Navy's largest aircraft carrier, H.M.S. Eagle. Object of the trials, held by the Bristol Aeroplane Company, was to study the behaviour of the kingsize eggbeater in varying conditions of deck motion; to carry out tests of rotor blade behavior; to determine case of maneuverability on the flight deck, and to examine stowage problems below decks.
