Dec. 12, 1954 - American aircraft Special Ceremony. Under one of the forms of the United States aid to the United Kingdom, known as Special Aircraft Assistance, the U.S. Government is providing in the current fiscal year $ 85 million. This money is being used to pay for part of the cost, about 70%, of upwards of 350 combat aircrafts on order for the R.A.F. This assistance is provided under the Mutual Security Appropriations Act, 1954, by the Foreign Operations Administration, which is represented in the United Kingdom by a mission, the Director of which is Mr. Lincoln Gordon. The agreement provides that the Air Ministry shall give facilities to the Mission for inspecting the aircraft so that they may certify that they have been delivered and that they are fully operational to normal R.A.F. standards. Today Mr. Andrew Foster Counselor of the U.S. Embassy ( who took the place of Mr. Lincoln Gordon went to R.A.F. Station Wyton, Hunts to inspect and approve some of the aircraft just delivered to Bomber Command and Fighter command under the scheme.
