Nov. 11, 1954 - Jet's Roar Is Penned And Silenced: To cut down the deafening when jet engines are tesi the British firm of Vickers-A come up with an open pen and a muffler South Marston, England. The plane is moved into the pen by tractor, with the end of the jet exhaust centered in the opening of the muffler which is located in the middle of the back wall. With the muffler, the noise level is so reduced that it causes no annoyance at 1, 000 yards and, in many directions, no noise at all at that distance. Photo shows A Vickers Supermarine Swift jet fighter in the pen, with its exhaust in the muffler
