Aug. 08, 1955 - British Canberra Sets Up Three New World Records.. History Making Flight Ends at London Airport. Piloted by Captain John Hackett and Peter Moneypenny as the navigator, a British Canberra jet bomber left London Airport yesterday morning, and made the return trip to New York in 14 hrs 21 min 45.5 secs, including a 35 minutes stop in New York for refuel. The flight to New York took 7 hrs 29 min and 56.7 secs; New York to London took 6 hrs 16 min 59.5 sec, setting up records for London to New York; New York - London and the return journey (subject to confirmation)..
