Oct. 10, 1955 - Rocket Plus Turbo-Jet equals 2, 000 M.P.H. : Britain is experimenting with a pilotless Ramjet, a combination of rocket and turbo-jet, and has developed a model to the stage where it will do nearly 2, 000 m.p.h. The Ramjet, which can be used for supersonic flight or in guided missiles, gets its initial boost from rockets which slide away from the main body in flight. The turbo-jet main body does not function until it is traveling at 1 1/2 times the speed of sound.
