1957 - Flight Over Wight Flying with Britain;s Royal Air Force Transport Command is the de Havilland Comet II jet transport. Powered by four Rolls Royce Avon 117 turbo-jets, each of 7, 350 lb. thrust, the plane has a cruising speed of around 500 mph. It is fitted with a strengthened freight-carrying floor and, like all other planes of the Transport Command, backward-facing seats.
