Sep. 09, 1957 - Noise Suppressors fitted to new Rolls Royce Avon R.A. 29 engines for the Comet Aircraft: Another stage in the rapid progress of the De Havilland Comet Aircraft is the fitting of simple corrugated nozzle noise suppressors to the four Rolls Royce Avon R.A. 29's which have been fitted to the new Comet machines. The suppressors are being developed by Rolls Royce and the Comet is already noted for its relative quietness but with the new suppressors fitted the machine will become quieter than many large transport aircraft operating today. The suppressors will be fitted to the engines of the Comet 4 and 4B jet airliners now being constructed for BOAC and BEA.
