Nov. 11, 1957 - The Fairey Rotodyne takes off on test. Britain's most revolutionary aircraft.: Said to be the biggest - and most revolutionary helicopter in the country - the 40-50 Fairey Rotodyne; made its first flight at White Waltham, near Maidenhead, today. It was piloted by SQD. LDR. Ronald Gellatly a 36 year old New Zealander. The Potodyne is an airliner which flies vertically like a helicopter and forward like an onthodox airplane. It has short stubby wings - and two jet prop engineswhich dave at forward at about 180.m.p.h. Three cars on be bowed inside its fuselage. The machine costs about £225, 000.
