(PDT) Wednesday, July 30, 1958: New jet liner-American Airlines, Inc. has purchased 25 of these new 635-mile-an-hour jet airliners from Convair Division of general Dynamics Corporatio. known as the Convair 600, the new plane will be capable high speed transcontinental flight will full passenger payloads. the two tapered projections on wing's trailing edge are new aerodynamic design that permits plane to fly efficiently just under the speed of sound. The Convair 600 will be powered by four General Electric CJ-805-21 aft-fan jet engines
