Jul. 07, 1959 - Record broken in Big Air Race: National Serviceman, 2nd Lieut. Barry Lynch, of Eastbourne, today broke the record in the Daily Mail Air Race, when he covered the 214 miles between London and Paris in 57 min.3 sec, which beat the time Capt. Roderick Walker, set up on Monday, by 44 seconds. Lieut. Lynch, from the Royal Corps of Signals Training Brigade at Catterick, across the Channel by R.A.F Hunter Jet Fighter. Photo shows 2nd. Lieut Lynch, who is 24, runs to the helicopter at Battersea Heliport from where he flew to Biggin Hilland then across the Channel by jet fighter
