Jun. 06, 1956 - Comet Joins Air Force: Britain's Royal Air Force will have its first jet transport squadron when No. 216 Squadron stationed at Lyneham, Wiltshire, England is fitted with the de Havilland Comet 2 later this year. One of the Comet's duties will be to provide a high-sped regular service between Britain and the Woomera rocket-testing range in Central Australia.
