Jun. 06, 1956 - Comet Joins Air Force: Britain's Royal Air Force will have its first jet transport squadron when No. 216 Squadron stationed at Lyneham, Wiltshire, England is fitted with the de Havilland Comet 2 later this year. One of the Comet's duties will be to provide a high-sped regular service between Britain and the Woomera rocket-testing range in Central Australia. The comet 2's four Rolls-Royce Avon than that of the Comet 1. Photo shows. The first Comet 2 aircraft for the R.A.F. during its maiden flight
