Jan. 01, 1959 - English Electronic PPI Lightning travels at 1, 280 m.p.h. its Pilot goes home - by Bus; Chief Test Pilot of the English Electronic Company Roland Bea Beamont attended a conference at the Savoy Hotel London - yesterday - when it was announced that he had piloted the new English Electric P1 Lightning - more than twice the speed of sound at that height. It accelerated from a low speed to its target and back again in 3 min. 40 sec. It is as anything in Russia or America. After the conference Test Pilot Beamont traveled home aboard a London bus.
