Jan. 01, 1959 - Conference On New Twice The Speed Of Sound Aircraft: A Press conference was held this morning at the Savoy Hotel in which information was given regarding the new English Electric Lightning all weather fighter which has flown at Mach 2 - or twice twin-engined all-weather fighter in production in the world, and it is now in production for the R.A.F. The speed was reached during routine test flights over the Irish Sea- by the company's chief test pilot - Mr.R.P. Beamont. Photo shows Mr. R. P.
