Oct. 10, 1959 - Lost Test Pilot Walks Out Of The Sea After Being Thirty Hours Adrift In A Dinghy: A man wearing flying kit waded a shore from a dinghy yesterday and staggered, gaunt and haggard, into a garden. He was the test pilot of the P1 Lightning jet fighter aircraft which plunged into the sea on Thursday - he had come back from the dead. The pilot Johnny Squier had been adrift in the dinghy for 30 hours in the wind-swept Irish Sea and Selway Firth after escaping by using his ejector seat. He stumbled a shore near Carlieston, Wigtownshire, about 30 miles from the point there his 1, 300 m.p.h. plane crashed into the sea. He was taken to hospital at Stranreer suffering mainly with shock.
