Oct. 19, 1959 - 19-10-59 Air Patrol for new London-Birmingham Motorway The new London-Birmingham Motorway will be the first road in Britain to be regularly patrolled from the air, when it is opened next month. The Automobile Association is to provide continuous breakdown service on the motorway, including air patrols by spotter aircraft. The planes will be in constant radio contact with an AA office at Broughton flyover near Newport Pagnell, and the pilots will be in radio touch with a fleet of AA patrol vehicles.
