Nov. 11, 1959 - Jet Airliner Christened with Yard of ALE: Trans World Airlines this evening inaugurated their London to New York Boeing 707 Intercontinental jet airliner service with a scheduled 7 1/2 hour flight. Aboard the Jet were a number of distinguished guests including Air Commodore Sir Frank Whittle, British jet engine pioneer who, before the take-off in a ceremony with the aircraft London Town'. In place of the traditional; champagne, a yard of ale was used to give the giant jet its new title.
