Dec. 12, 1959 - Table top task: From left to right, on their hands and knees, and almost out of sight draughtsmen work on a 120 ft by 20 ft table top in the layout department of Short Bros. and Harland, Belfast, Northern Ireland. they are drawing on specially prepared metal the basic outline of the nose and rear sections of the giant SC 5 Britannic (fuselage 135 ft long by 17 ft 7 ins diameter) turbo-prop airfreighter. From their full-scale master drawings duplicates will be lithographed on metal for the manufacture of templates for machine tool operators. So great is their task their department has had to be enlarged to tackle it. Designed to carry heavy loads economically over long distances, the Britannic is on order for the Royal Air Force. Other countries have shown interrest
