Mar. 22 Fastest U.S. Choppers For West Germany. The first two CH/53D/G Sikorsky helicopters built for the West German Ministry of Defence are soon to be delivered. A total of 135 of the U.S. craft are to join the West German forces by 1974. The West German Parliament authorised 82.5 million for the helicopter programme. The 200 mph craft has a range of 274 miles and can carry 38 fully equipped troops.
