Mar. 31 Flying Leathernecks Under Test. One Man Rotorcycles'. Three Marine Corps One man helicopters known as Flying Leathernecks demonstrate their stability and hovering capabilities during tactical eveluations of the aircraft at Marine Corps Schools, Quantico, Virginia. Called YRON-1, the new Rotorcycle is under test for possible combat use in flying reconnaissance, observation, courier and limited logistic support missions. The machine weighs about 440 pounds empty is capable of carrying a pay load of 250 pounds, and has a to speed of about 70 mph. Powered by a 62 HP Porsche engine, it has attained altitude of up to 3, 000 feet and has a maximum range of about 60 miles on five gallons of fuel.
