Mar. 31 Unique Airlift for helicopter. Up to date transport for modern equipment The first commercial operation with a Bristol Type 192 twin-engine tandem-rotor helicopter took place today near Cambridge when it transported a large parabolic aerial for a radio telescope to a new site. The airlift was the only practical method for the serial transportation as its intricate construction makes it impractical to dismantle and its dimensions of 27 diameter and weight of 2, 000 lb. The radio telescope for which the serial is to be used is part of the equipment of the Mullard Radio Astronomy Laboratory of the University of Cambridge. It was today transported from Grange Farm, about a mile west of Clare College, Cambridge to its new site, at Offal End a distance of about six miles.
