Apr. 17 World's Most Unusual Plane. Of all the aircraft currently under development, this U.S. X-22a vertical take off craft is said to be the most unusual in design. The X-22A unique features are its giant size turbo-shaft engines situated on two sets of wings - one aft and one just behind the cockpit. Capable of 300 m.p.h. speeds, the plane can take off vertically and convert to a forward thrust by turning its engines from vertical to horizontal positions. Built by Bell Aerosystems, the plane has a crew of two. Photo shows Unique X-22A seen during a flight test in the U.S.A
