Apr. 17 Final Test Flight for Space Shuttle: At the Dryden Flight Research Center, California the 5th final flight 28, 000 feet high over the Mohave Desert, the 747 with the 101 Orbiter on top performs the last of its simulated flights. Simulations included climbs and gradual pushovers. The 747/101 reached the speed of 437 mph. During their decent the crew would reduce power and Illegible deploy speed brakes. This would simulate conditions necessary to launch the Space Shuttle
