Apr. 17 Airship From Germany Flies In Japan. Japan's first dirigible Hiryu (Flying Dragon) purchased from West Germany, is shown on its first test flight after being assembled at the Kawasaki Aircraft Company's plant at Kagamigahara, Japan. The airship was originally made for a German firm by an American company, and will be used by an electric machinery maker to fly around Japan to publicize its products. The Flying Dragon is 49 metres long, the maximum width 13.3 metres and weight 3.75 tons. Loaded with 4, 100 cubic litres of helium gas, the airship has a speed of 95 kph with its two 145 HP turboprop engines. At a cruising speed of 65 kph, it can remain in the air for 17 hours continuously, and carry six passengers
