Apr. 17 General Dynamics F-16 air Combat Fighter Prototype: General Dynamics F-16 Air Combat Fighter prototype shows its classic lines during a recent test flight at Edwards Air Force Base, CA. The F-16 has been chosen by the U.S. Air Force for full - scale development as this country's new Air Combat Fighter, following an intensive, 10 month evaluation and selection process which included more than 330 flights. The F-16 is a low-cost, single-seat, single-engine, Mach 2 aircraft design to achieve superiority in air - to - air combat and to carry over 15, 000 pounds of bomb and missiles on air-to-ground missions
