Jan. 10 Nose for a red top A first-release photograph of the nose of the British SC.9, a Canberra jet converted by Short Bros. and Harland in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The new proboscis is for one of Britain latest fighter-borne air-to-air guided missiles, the de Havilland Red Top. Red Tops (not shown) have infra-red detectors and proximity fuses that make evfen a near miss fatal. Small in size, light in weight, they are claimed exceedingly fast and equally effective at low level of the greatest heights of manned flight. Pic issued August 1961
