Aug. 08, 1960 - Stratosphere balloon driven beyond the Iron Curtain: 30 m long balloon sent into the stratosphere by the Max Planck Institute (Max Planck) in Lindau (Lindau) in the Harz (Harz) Mountains in central (West Germany to measure cosmic radiation has drifted away and apparently went down beyond the Iron Curtain in East Germany. It was travelling in a height of about 24km. The physicists hope that the balloon with its measuring results will be returned by the intermediary of East Berlin Academy of Science.
