May 05, 1962 - Pedal-Powered Sky-Bike Flies: A British aircraft engineer, John Wimpenny, 39, of St Alban's Berts, has become the first man to fly a man-powered machine for more than half a mile. The news of the flight last Wednesday at Hatfield aerodrome was released yesterday. The machine, called The Puffin, has ab 84-foot wing span and was built by the Hatfield Man-powers aircraft Group and weighs 8at. 31b.
