May 05, 1965 - New Speed record verified: A world record breaking speed of 2, 062 m.p.h. has been confirmed for America's YF-12A triple-sonic interceptor aircraft, which established four records last week on a flight from Edwards, air Force Base. The other exact marks, as verified by representatives of the Federations Aeronautique International, worldwide aviation agency in Paris, are: 1, 642 m.p.h. for a 500 kilometer closed course, 1, 688 m.p.h. for a 1, 000 kilometer closed course and a sustained altitude of 80, 000 feet for horizontal flight.
