Oct. 10, 1964 - Into The Supersonic Age..In The Super Plane Which Never Takes Off. Although the Concord is not expected to come into service until 1971 - BOAC is now training pilots at the Heathrow training base - to get the feel of supersonic flight in a mock up of a Concord flight deck. It is in fact the nose section of a Comet airliner adapted to simulate supersonic travel. In their training the pilots fly the mock up Concord between Britain and America once a week. in the flight the pilots have to contend with all types of simulated conditions, hurricanes - and they have to fly at many different altitudes - supersonic etc. Keystone Photo Shows:- Picture taken with a 180 degree fisheye lens - inside the mock-up during a flight t the United States - at the BOAC Training Centre at Heathrow
