Aug. 08, 1967 - New giant hangar for R.A.F. Air Support Command: One of the biggest aircraft hangars in Western Europe to accomodate three V.C. 10 jet transports and three Belfast turbo jet freighters, was officially handed over tot he Royal Air Force at Brize Norton, Oxfordshire today. It was accepted on behalf of the R.A.F. by Air Vice Marshal R.C. Ayling, A.O.A. Air Support Command, from Sir Cecil Mant, Controller General of the Ministry of Public Building and works. The hangar, built at a cost of £1, 800, 000 is part of a £5.75 million program of improvements being carried out by the Ministry to develop the station as the main base for the long range strategic force of R.A.F.
