May 19, 1967 - Dam Busters Anniversary. Lancaster Bomber To Scampton. A Lancaster bomber in the wartime livery of Royal Air Force Bomber Command, today made a commemorative flight from Biggin Hill, Kent, to R.A.F. Station, Scampton, Lines - home of NO. 617 Squadron ('The Dam Busters') - to mark the 24th anniversary of the raid that breashed the Mohne and Eder Dams east of the Ruhr. On board the aircraft were several ex - 617 Squadron aircrew who took part in the raid including Mr. G. Rice and Mr. W. Townsend, dams raid pilots, and Mr. D. Webb, a gunner on the raid. The Lancaster, a Mark 7 and an ex-French Navy machine was acquired by the Histois Aircraft Preservation Society from Australia some to years ago and flown the 12, 000 miles to Biggin Hill, where it has been a star statie attraction.
