Feb. 02, 1965 - The TSR-2 A Magnificent Flying Machine - Says The Expert: Britain's TSR-2 jet bomber crashed through the sound barrier for the first time yesterday - during a display of the new machine's capabilities - at Wharton, Lances, put on by test pilot Roland Ben Beaumont at the controls. He had flown the machine from the military test field at Boscombe Down, Wiltshire. The5, 000, 000 strike bomber made a number of flights at various speeds - and at the press conference afterwards - Bee Beaumont said the aircraft couldutpace the lightning chase fighters - and every test so far confirms the design capability of the aircraft.
