Mar. 03, 1968 - Capt. c. n. Pierozzi, Commanding officer, VX-4 squadron, is strapped in his F4B aircraft prior to taking off on a tactical maneouvering flight. VX-4 pilots, many of them Vietnam combat veterans, are conducting a series of tests to find ways to prevent American planes and airmen from being shot down over North Vietnam by Russian - built MIG-17s and SAM missiles. A communications switching center installed at the Pacific missile range, point Mugu, Calif, by Western electric co. manufacturing and supply unit of the bell system enables the range to support these tests
