1970 - Israel Show off its own design aircraft The Arava': Israel Aircraft Industries have formerly put on show its first home-designed aircraft. Mrs. Meir, the Israeli Prime Minister, joined thousands of company employees who watched the inaugural flight of their first civil aircraft, called Arava at the Industries plant near Lydda airport. The Arava, intended maily for export, can carry 20 passengers, or nearly two tons of cargo, and is powered by a Turboprop engine.
