Sep. 09, 1971 - Christie's to Auction a flying Old Master'; An original Bleriot monoplane, built just after Frenchman Louis Bleriot made the first cross channel flight from Calais to Dover in 1909, is to be auctioned at Christie's on September 30th. It is identical with the Cross channel flight aeroplane and the owner, commander Lelie D. Goldsmith, of Itchenor, near Chichester, believes it was one of a batch built in 1910 by Bleriot in a spate of orders for his aircraft which followed the first aeroplane flight across the Straits of Dover. The Bleriot is now at Old Warden airfield, near Biggleswade, Beds, home of thee famous Shuttleworth collection of vintage aircraft.
