Oct. 10, 1971 - Press Conference at Weybridge to Discuss the recent flight of a man-powered aircraft: The Weybridge Man Powered Aircraft Group today held a press conference at the Apprentice Training School, British aircraft Corporation, Weybridge, to discuss the recent flight of their man powered aircraft. The group is sponsored by the Royal Aernautical Society, and are aiming their sights at the £10, 000 prize money, held by the Society, for presentation to the first man to achieve a one mile flight round a figure of eight course. Last September the aircraft flew about 560 yards at a height of about 3 feet. It is a single seat. low wing, pusher monoplane with a wing span of 120 feet an overall length of about 20 feet and a 7 foot propeller at the rear. Photo shows Mr. Chris Lovell, of the Surrey gliding club, who who took the aircraft off the ground last September, demonstrates the driving power needed as he sits at the pedals of the man powered aircraft at Weybridge today
