Oct. 10, 1971 - Helicopter Airlift At County Hall: The problem of how to lift two steel cooling towers, each weighing 1 1/2tons, on to the roof of County Hall, London, was solved today - by helicopter. The airlift took place when the two towers, part of the environmental control system for the Greater London Council's new computer suite was hoisted on the roof nearly 130ft above the Thames. The lift was made by a Wessex helicopter. The environmental system in the computer suite keeps temperature, humidity and dust at acceptable levels, to ensure efficient working. The towers are necessary for the dispersal of heat which will be generated by the GLC's two IBM 370/145 computers when they are installed early next year.
