Nov. 19, 1971 - November 19th, 1971 First Airship to be seen in Britain for 20 years is being built at Cardington, Bedfordshire - The first airship to be seen in Britain for 20 years is being built at Cardington, the former RAP airship base near Bedford. More than 192-feet long, the airship - to be named Europa - is being built by Goodyear Rubber Company, who supply airships to various American Government departments, including weather and coastguard authorities. The Europa is expected to be flow next April, and is expected to be seen over Britain at most of the major events.
