Nov. 11, 1971 - First Airship to be seen in Britain for 20 Years is Being Built at Cardington - Bedfordshire. The first airship to be seen in Britain for 20 years is being built at Cardington, the former RAF airship base near Bedford. More than 192 feet long, the airship - to be named Europa - is being built by Goodyear Rubber Company, who supply airships to various American Government departments, including weather and coastguard authorities. The Europa is expected to be flown next April and will be seen over Britain at most of the events. Photo Shows: A party of men are busy unrolling and laying out the huge silver envelope of the new airship in its hangar at Cardington today
