Mar. 26, 1969 - First metal mock up pod cowling for Rolls Royce RB.211 dispatched to Lockheed: The first RB.211 propulsion systems metal mock up cowling assembly has been dispatched two weeks ahead of schedule from factory of the Lockheed California Company. The mock up cowling was manufactured by Short Bros. and Harland at Belfast, Northern Ireland, and delivered to Derby to be checked against a mock up engine prior to dispatch. This engineering mock up will be used, with a mock up engine already at Burbank, during design work on engine installation features of the L.1011 TriStar. It will enable procedures and power plant ground handling, and will be used during engineering and commercial discussions which TriStar customers and potential customers
